What do you need

A BlackVue dashcam comes with a 12/24V cigarette lighter cable as standard. This cable supplies the dashcam with power. This ensures that the dashcam switches on while driving. As soon as the car is switched off, the dashcam will also switch off. Parking mode is unfortunately not an option in this case.

In order to use parking mode, you must supply the dashcam with power as soon as your vehicle is switched off. However, you do not want to risk an empty battery. BlackVue has come up with various options for this:

  • B-112 Power Magic Battery Pack;
  • B-130A Power Magic Ultra Battery;

LiFePo4 accu

Unlike conventional lithium-ion batteries found in consumer electronics such as phones or laptops, BlackVue batteries are powered by the LiFePO4 (lithium iron phosphate) type. LiFePO4 batteries are highly resistant to heat, which is crucial for safe operation in a vehicle.

In a vehicle parked in the sun, temperatures can rise to levels where lithium-ion batteries can become a safety hazard. This is also why BlackVue dashcams use a supercapacitor as a backup battery, rather than a “regular” battery. Finally, LiFePO4 batteries generally have a longer lifespan (based on the number of charge/discharge cycles) compared to lithium-ion batteries.

Parking Mode and the Cloud

The combination of Parking Mode and the BlackVue Cloud offers a new dimension to your BlackVue dashcam. When your dashcam is connected to the Cloud, you will be kept informed in real time about what is happening with your car. For example, receive push notifications on your smartphone when something happens with or around your vehicle (motion/shock detection). Or have recordings automatically saved to the cloud, watch live remotely, and much more.

When does the dashcam switch to Parking Mode?

By default, our dashcams automatically switch to parking mode after 5 minutes of inactivity.

How does the dashcam record in Parking Mode?

The dashcam only records when shocks are detected via the built-in G-sensor, or when movement is detected. After movement or impact is detected, recording is done for one minute. The crucial first seconds that triggered the recording are also saved.

What are the advantages of Parking Mode?

Less chance of important files being overwritten during long parking sessions.
Only relevant recordings are saved, which makes it a lot easier to find the right recording in the event of an event.
When movement or a shock is detected, a few seconds before this moment are also recorded in the recording.
The dashcam consumes significantly less power because it is not constantly activated.

Does Parking Mode also work with a 2-channel dashcam?

Yes. Both the front and rear cameras respond to movements, and will therefore start recording. Vibrations or impacts are only detected by the front camera, but will also activate the rear camera. Both recordings are therefore stored on the microSD card.

Can parking mode also be disabled?

Yes. Parking mode can be disabled in the settings of your camera.
In this case, the dashcam will continue to record continuously, as long as it is powered.
